Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol that is used to encode the information exchanged between a hosting server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to secure the info that site visitors submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, etc. Any information they type in in any box on the site will be submitted securely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Usually, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be installed, which implies the overall cost for your online presence will be higher. While this may not be a problem for a larger enterprise, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store that doesn't generate big revenue if additional money should be spent. This is the key reason why we have taken advantage of an extension known as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting

You shall be able to use this option with all of our shared hosting solutions and with any SSL certificate issued from any retailer. If you choose to work with an SSL from our company, everything shall be set up automatically and you will not have to do anything after you order and approve the certificate. The SSL order wizard will allow you to select a shared IP to be used and the SSL to be set up by our system, so using this feature requires a maximum of 2 additional mouse clicks after you fill the necessary info for the certificate. The adequate operation of the SSL shall not be impacted in any way and any data which website visitors submit on your website shall be encrypted and protected in the exact same way. The only difference from using a dedicated address is that http:// will not open your site, but it is extremely unlikely that anybody will ever attempt to access it that way instead of inputting your domain within the browser URL bar.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers

You can use a shared IP address for an SSL purchased through us or through any other retailer with any one of our Linux semi-dedicated servers. The setup is extremely easy and if you obtain the certificate from our company, you can also take advantage of our SSL wizard where with merely a couple of clicks you can pick the SSL to be installed automatically for the specific domain or subdomain on the shared IP that is configured to be employed for this purpose. This option will save you time and efforts as you'll not have to do anything after you approve the SSL via e mail, not mentioning the funds you shall save for the IP address on a monthly basis. Your website will be secure and any customer will feel certain that their data will be protected considering that using a shared IP address doesn't affect the proper operation of the certificate and the only difference from using a dedicated one is that the IP address cannot be used as a URL to access your site.
