There are many ways to direct a domain name to an alternative domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. When you own a domain and you have developed a website through some online service that provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you're going to achieve by doing this is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the web browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party company. It is very important to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop working, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and functioning email addresses with another one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often additional configuration may be required with the other company.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our shared hosting service is really simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in just a few basic steps. You will find a video tutorial within the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with many opportunities - if you create a company website on our end, for example, the workers can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you decide to set up a site using a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You're going to be able to set up, edit and delete CNAME records very easy with all of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are handled using the custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for every domain name or subdomain which you have added in your account. To create a new record, you just have to select the hostname that will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), input where it will be forwarded to, select the record type, that will be CNAME in this case, and you are going to be ready. Even when you have never used a web hosting service before, our CP is very intuitive to use, so you'll not have any troubles. We also have a short video and a detailed help article on how to set up a CNAME record, both of which are located in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this function, you can easily use a domain hosted on our innovative cloud hosting platform for a site created elsewhere, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, and a lot more.
